Today’s world is filled with complex societal challenges: homelessness, climate change, access to clean water, and so on. Using the principles of Design Thinking, CCSS and NGSS standards can be used as a vehicle for empowering students to develop ways to address these societal challenges through real-world problem solving, entrepreneurialism, service, and student-prototyped designs. In this session, you’ll learn how the practice of human-centered design thinking can help uncover needs, frame generative questions, develop concepts, and prototype solutions while mastering content standards.
This session will provide an overview of the Design Thinking process, and how to use this process, connected with grade-level content standards, to empower social justice and advocacy.

I am passionate about anything and everything that engages students in deep, relevant learning. Teaching students to think and act like a designer gives them the tools to become change makers.
