CUE BOLD Symposium 2018

Join us for a fun, engaging learning tactic where we get the entire class doing an activity and then discussing and writing about it in a teacher‐led process. The completed decisions can then be used in multiple follow‐up activities to reinforce language learning. LEA can be a low‐prep, high‐energy lesson focused on student interests. It can be easily adapted to different subjects and, though it is most often used with ELL beginners, students at various degrees of English proficiency can benefit from its use. Using this strategy can assist students as they begin developing the skills to write informative, explanatory, and narrative text. Also, it supports students in gaining an understanding of English conventions. Finally, it helps the Speaking and Listening Standard of “building on others' ideas” (Common Core State Standards Initiative, n.d.c).
